Letter, 1738 September 12, Newport [R.I.] to the Rev. Samuel Mather, Boston, Mass.

Callender apologizes for the delay in returning some books he borrowed; also expresses his regret that he did not see Mather when in Boston. Several friends have urged Callender to have one of his sermons printed, and he is concerned that Mather not be offended by the content or style of the work. He was unable to show a draft of the work to Mather, but the printer has instructions to let Mather see a copy now. Callender cites the pages where he mentions Mather's relations and where he quotes Mather's father.
